First Day of School 2013

Our first day of school fell on August 26th. Even though I had been doing school all summer with only a 2 week break for our NYC vacation and am a homeschool graduate, something about the official first day gets me all excited!

Our usual tradition includes a special breakfast. This year, Mom prepared pancakes...

and rounded up some helpers to slice strawberries, make egg quiches, and set the table

While the food was cooking, we opened our bags. Every year, Mom shops the back-to-school sales for various supplies for each of her students. They are presented to us in a special gift bag on the first day (and this year, she also prepared a bag for herself as well!)

We enjoyed our breakfast along with our daily Bible study and then the day was begun. Molly and Mom began working on her 9th grade curriculum. Melissa pulled out her backpack and stuffed it to the brim with textbooks for the first day of classes at the community college. And I pulled out my computer to study for my current test, Business Math.

A special thanks to Mom for working hard (not only this year, but for the past 14 years) to make the first day of school (and every day) a special time of learning and growing together! This year has brought some new challenges and you work more one-on-one with Molly as Melissa and I work more independently on our college studies... Some students say they could not imagine being taught by their mom, but I couldn't imagine not being taught and mentored by you! Thank you for investing our lives :D
